Your HVAC unit is really your way to stay warm in the winter and cool in the summer. Your HVAC unit provides you with a lot of comfort, but it can also be the cause of a lot of different problems. There are many aspects of an HVAC unit, and there are many different things that can go wrong. For this reason, it is very important that you properly maintain and clean your HVAC unit. This article is going to outline three reasons that you should have your HVAC unit cleaned and maintained regularly.

At Least Yearly Maintenance

Many people do not realize that while an HVAC unit needs to be maintained on at least a yearly basis, it is best to perform preventative maintenance twice a year. There is a long list of things that must be maintained with an HVAC unit, and it is best to have a professional perform most of the duties. If your unit does not have the proper levels of various fluids, or if there is something small wrong with the motor, a small problem can turn into a large problem very quickly. Be sure that preventative maintenance is being conducted.

Cleaning

One of the most important things that you can do for your home is to clean the ducts of your system. The ducts are one of the most common places to find a buildup of dust or mold. These different allergens and pollutants are known to cause a great deal of health problems. They can cause multiple respiratory infections. The fact of the matter is that these different problems can be avoided by simply cleaning out the ducts of your system. It is easier to keep the problem under control little by little than it is to try to take care of a big problem.

Simple Things You Can Do

While there are a lot of things that are best left to a professional, there are many things that you can do to help prevent HVAC problems. One of the first things you can do is to ensure that the unit is free of leaves and other debris. Be sure that the unit is on stable ground and that it is free of any obstacles within a few feet. It is also a very good idea to replace the filter on your unit every 90 to 100 days. One other thing to do yearly is replace the batteries on your carbon-monoxide detector.
